Which customer solution that you have realised are you really proud of? We ask our consultants this question in this video series. This time SAP WMS consultant Bas Tammel discusses efficient warehouse automation with SAP EWM.

What was your client’s challenge?

My client is active in the wholesale sector and is dealing with rapid growth on the one hand, but with a very tight labour market on the other. To compensate for the increase in activities in the distribution centre, they are therefore looking to increase efficiency and profit in the logistical processes with the help of warehouse automation.

What solution did you implement?

We implemented SAP’s Extended Warehouse Management, or EWM, at the customer’s location. This has provided a very modern, fast and robust way of communicating with external warehouse control systems, the Material Flow System. This MFS technology uses communication based on short telegrams.

What was the result of your solution/action for the client?

The efficiency of the relevant processes in the distribution centre has greatly improved, allowing them to do much more with the same number of warehouse employees. This is a very large DC with an enormous amount of movement. This also means that a large number of telegrams are processed quickly and stably.

The users are also very satisfied with these automation projects. For example, they have all the oversight needed to monitor the status and progress in the warehouse via monitoring. They can also rely on stable processes.
