Bart, what was your client’s challenge?

Our client was confronted with delays in the delivery of certain components that required a considerable amount of quality control time. If they waited for approval of these components, the end customers would receive their products several weeks late.

How did you take on this challenge?

To meet this challenge, we decided to use the components before they were fully approved, so that we could run the quality control lead time in parallel with that of the end product. To manage any business risks, we implemented a system in which we could indicate which components came from reliable suppliers and to which this parallel system applied.

The release of the end product was blocked until the components had been fully approved. If a component was rejected, this automatically resulted in the non-release of the end product, so that no risk whatsoever arose for the customer.

What was the result of this solution?

Thanks to this approach, our client’s lead times became manageable, even during periods when supply chain problems occurred. As soon as the components could be delivered according to schedule again, this system ensured a significant reduction in the lead time. This resulted in a potential additional annual turnover of approximately 1 million euros.
